Authority of Scripture

From the Series, Fight for your Life, by James MacDonald, based on Jude, originally aired June 2 -6, 2003:

Based on Jude, NIV:

3Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. 4For certain men whose condemnation was written about[2] long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

"There is a fight going on.  There are some precious things being taken from you and from me."

"The problem is urgent."

"The issue is God's Word.  That's what the fight is over, that's what the fight [for the Faith] is about."

"The Faith is the body of Truth centered in the Gospel -- the Good News of new life in Christ by repentance and faith."

"The Bible is not being still being written.  There (are) no new things we need to find out from God.  He said it all."

"It goes without saying, the Word of God is ever and always under attack."

"Sadly Christians are more content than willing to contend."

"Just in this century the Bible has experience four major attacks."

(Summary of Issues)

Liberalism

Veracity

"Was Jesus really born of a Virgin?"

Neo-Orthodoxy

Accuracy

"Essentially the Bible is true in spiritual matters, but there was never really a Nineveh ..."

Relevancy

it's too old

“How can you believe in the morality of the Bible?"

Sufficiency

it's not enough

"We need additional truth to really help people."

"The danger is subtle ... where the opposite is not obvious.  The attack comes from people ... speaking lies that corrupt the Truth."

"False teaching slips in unnoticed, cleverly concealed."

"God's people who prefer contentment to contending sit by and watch."

James MacDonald is the founding pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel in Rolling Meadows, IL.
