- UMNS Article, August 2, 2004: United
Methodist clergywoman to face trial
A United Methodist
clergywoman in Philadelphia faces a church trial as the result of an
investigating committee decision. The Rev. Irene Elizabeth (Beth)
Stroud, 34, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church of
Germantown since 1999, talked about being a lesbian in an April 27,
2003, sermon to her congregation. She also said she and her partner
“have lived in a covenant relationship for two and a half years.” [More]

Apportionment receipts exceed $7m,
February 6, Northern Illinois Conference News

In 2003, churches in the Northern
Illinois Conference (NIC) contributed more than $7 million in
apportionments payments for the fourth year in a row. But the
apportionments were only 82.71% of apportionment receipts
budgeted by the Conference, leaving the NIC unable to pay 100%
of its General Church apportionments for the second year in a
row.

Update - Excerpts:
"Speaking
of General Conference, some of you are receiving this email
message because you were a part of our General Conference prayer
effort during the 2000 General Conference. I hope you will pass
along items we will be sharing with you in the weeks ahead to
others who are a part of your prayer network. Also, you may know
of persons who would be interested in being a part of this email
network. We hope to expand it and are making a major effort to
do so. If you know of others interested, have them email us at
Letters@goodnewsmag.org.
That will get sent right to Bob, our webmaster and Vice
President for Communication Technology. He will see that these
emails get added to our list.
Also, please be praying for Dr. Scott Field, our board chairman
and head of our General Conference legislative effort, which
will involve some 35-40 persons on site in Pittsburgh. Scott has
his hands full as senior pastor of a large UM Church in
Naperville, and this added responsibility means he has to
stretch for extra time and energy. Pray mightily for him, and
others on our team. We'll share more about that team in a future
newsletter."
