The 2004 Southeastern
Jurisdictional Conference elected Hope Morgan Ward on the second
ballot of the Conference. The North Carolina Delegation endorsed
Ward as nominee. She currently serves as District Superintendent
of the Raleigh District, North Carolina Conference.
Ward served as Director of Connection Ministries from 1997-2001,
guiding the leadership of the North Carolina Conference toward a
Connectional Table model of mission and ministry. As pastor of
Soapstone United Methodist Church from 1986-1997, she provided
significant leadership shepherding the congregation from 40 in
worship attendance to over 300 in worship per Sunday.
Ward shared her characteristics of ministry as Evangelist,
Shepherd, Teacher, Builder, Missioner, and Connector. She has an
A.B., English and Religion, Duke University, 1973 and Master of
Divinity, Duke Divinity School, 1978. |

The 2004 Southeastern Jurisdictional
Conference elected Will Willimon on the fourth ballot of
the Conference. The South Carolina Delegation endorsed
Willimon as nominee. He currently serves as Dean of Duke
Chapel, Duke Divinity School, Durham, North Carolina.
Willimon served as professor to generations of pastors
at Duke Divinity School, guiding the leadership across
the connection of the United Methodist Church. He served
as pastor of small congregations in South Carolina and
Georgia. He is the author of a dozen books, being the
most read writer among Methodist pastors.
Willimon is widely known as a gifted preacher, being an
energetic administrator and popular Bible teacher and
theologian. Will is married to Patsy Parker. They have
two married children, William of Chattanooga, Tennessee
and Harriet of Durham, North Carolina.

The 2004 Southeastern
Jurisdictional Conference elected James Edward Swanson, Sr.
on the fourth ballot of the Conference. The South Georgia
Conference endorsed Swanson as nominee. He currently serves
as District Superintendent, Savannah District, South Georgia
Conference.
Swanson served as pastor of St. Mary's Road United Methodist
Church in Columbus, Georgia, growing the Church from 16
active members to an average worship attendance of over 525
persons. Swanson is celebrated as a gifted preacher, serving
in significant leadership roles within the South Georgia
Conference boards, agencies, and committees.
Swanson holds a B.S. Degree in Christian Ministries,
Southern Bible College, a M.Div. Degree from C.H. Mason
Seminary, ITC, Atlanta, Georgia, training in Clinical
Pastoral Training, Candler Hospital, Savannah, Georgia, and
in process of a D.Min. Degree in Evangelism, Perkins School
of Theology, SMU. He is married to Delphine Yvonne Ramsey,
they have six children and seven grandchildren.
