And a new book from Cokesbury is recommended:

New from
Cokesbury!
People of a Compassionate God: Creating Welcoming Congregations;
edited by Janet F. Fishburn, Abingdon Press, 2003.
“These accounts of united Methodist churches struggling with the
decision to declare themselves Reconciling Congregations are
truly moving. The deepest tension in the life of the church may
be between its call to witness God’s purposes for the world and
its call to be a community of people who love and support one
another despite important disagreements. In this book we read of
ordinary Christians working through this tension with
extraordinary commitment and sensitivity.”

Daily Advocate for June 3, 2004
By Woody Woodrick
Advocate Editor
GULFPORT – Today’s society only listens to what
it wants to hear and not what it needs to hear, says the leader of a
United Methodist evangelical organization.
Dr. Bill Hinson compares the religious climate of
today to that of ancient times described in 2 Timothy 4, where Paul
writes a warning to those listening to “sweet meat” preachers. Because
of that, much of society has drifted away from biblical truth, and the
Bible, once revered, is now often scoffed at even by some Christians.
“To say the Bible has lost much of its prominence
doesn’t need documentation,” Hinson said June 2 at the Handsboro
Community Center.
Hinson was the keynote speaker for the second
annual banquet of the Mississippi Fellowship of United Methodist
Evangelicals. The banquet was held in conjunction with the 16th
session of the Mississippi Annual Conference.
